Jack Russell Terrier Casually Hitches a Ride on Horseback with Dad
If you ask me, the only thing better than seeing an animal is seeing two animals! Whether they're meeting for the first time or are longtime pals, animals interact with authenticity and acceptance that humans sometimes forget. Even animals from different species can be the best of friends!
It's no wonder why Carlos, a professional barrel horse trainer and dog dad of four, admires the friendship between his horses and his Jack Russell Terrier named Pepper. The little dog has so much confidence around the animals that it's almost hard to believe, but she's been around the stables for her entire life! She's just as close with her equine friends as Carlos is, which is why she knows exactly what to do when her dad saddles up for a ride. Her favorite thing is to tag along!
OMG! These three are adorable! They're completely in sync, which gives me the feeling that Pepper gets a ride from Dad and his horses quite frequently. Who knows--she may have ridden as many horses as he has!

"The fact that the horse was also waiting for her" was a favorite detail of so many viewers like @nadster08. Clearly, the barrel-racing horse knew exactly what to do, and the little dog's presence wasn't a surprise in the slightest. Pepper must be a regular guest at the stables, and it's easy to see why. Wide open space and plenty of friends to spend time with--what's not to love?
For as small as Pepper is, this little Jack Russell Terrier can jump! She leaped into her dad's arms before being lifted the rest of the way up, and she even got a kiss before the horse sauntered off. It can't get much better than that!
Do Dogs and Horses Get Along?
Many gentle dogs like Pepper get along well with people and even with other dogs, but meeting large animals like horses can be hit or miss. Farm animals can easily injure a pet if they get spooked and start to kick, but proper introductions and supervision will ensure everyone stays safe and sound.
By now, this Jack Russell and her horse friends are well-acquainted, but this doesn't mean any dog can get along with horses. Some shy dogs may feel scared of the horse's large size, or they may bark in defense, scaring the horse. When meeting for the first time, the dog and horse should be a distance away on opposite sides of a fence, slowly getting closer as both animals become comfortable.
You may not be able to force a friendship between two animals, but you can raise them both with love in hopes of one day witnessing a moment like this. You've got this!
