The Targaryens will be back for more. Before season two even began airing, HBO renewed House of the Dragon for a third chapter.

"George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon," Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming, said in a statement. "We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three."

Season three will continue to draw from George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood, a history of the Targaryen family, beginning with Aegon the Conqueror. Depending on which characters survive season two, we can expect the return of the key cast for Dragon season three, including Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Harry Collett, and Bethany Antonia.

In addition to continuing the world of House of the Dragon, there are other Game of Thrones spinoffs in the works, including Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on Martin's Dunk and Egg series about "Dunk" (Ser Duncan the Tall) and "Egg" (the future king Aegon V Targaryen), and Ten Thousand Ships, about Nymeria's exodus from Essos to Dorne. There was discussion of a spinoff about Jon Snow, but that is reportedly no longer happening.
